One of Fulci's zombies on American Horror Story: Coven

Did anyone else notice that one of the zombies in last weeks episodes looked a little similar to the Joe the Plumber zombie in The Beyond? Maybe it's just me but the show does take place in Louisiana (the setting for Fulci's film) so it could possibly be a homage...or just me reading too much into it.

Must see Italian Horror Films

This list is by no means a complete listing of Italian horror films. Nor, is it a list of the best Italian horror list. It is meant to be kind of a starter list for those of you who are maybe just getting into those wonderful overseas films from the country shaped like a boot.

The list has 3-4 films from all of the greatest Italian directors (OK, Fulci has 5 movies on the list...whatever). I could have easily pick 10 films from Argento, 10 from Fulci, a few from Bava and called it a complete list. But where's the fun in that? Instead what you're getting is a mix of sub-genres and directors. Classic films (like Suspiria and Zombie), some underrated gems (House on the Edge of the Park and The Church), and some real bottom of the barrel stuff (Hell of the Living Dead and Ratman).

Enjoy!

Halloween watch list

I always watch a lot of horror movies in October (really, who doesn't?), but this year I've decided to go all out and attempt to watch 50 movies in 31 days. I'm working on a list, which is almost complete, of a lot of classic and some not so classic horror films.

It should be a fun month.

Peter Bark, Nipple biting dwarf from Burial Ground (1981)

Burial Ground: Nights of Terror is an extremely strange Italian zombie film. For starters, why is the movie called Nights of Terror when it only takes place in one night? However, the weirdest aspect of Burial Ground has to be the presence of Peter Bark. Bark plays the young son, probably between 10-13 years old of one of the women in the film despite the fact that he is obviously at 40 year old dwarf.

So why would the makers of Burial Ground hire a 40 year old dwarf to play a ten year old boy? Well if you've watched the movie it all becomes clear in the last few minutes of the movie when Bark is turned into a zombie and bites the nipple off of his mother while she is allowing him to breast feed. Yeah...That actually happens.

Jaws!!!...Well, Almost.

Let's start this first post off with a bang. This is a clip for the 1981 classic "Jawsploitation" film , The Last Shark. A film who's plot is so close to the original Jaws that the production company that made the film was successfully sued by Universal studios.

Do you need another horror blog?

Well...do you?

Let's face it, there's probably a million places on the "net" (that's still cool to say, right?) that you could go to read about horror movies, view horror movies, and really anything else you could want to do with horror movies. So what's the point of this blog you ask? What could I possibly hope to add to this over-abundance of information?

Honestly, I really don't know. I'm just a guy who's had a profound love of horror films since I was very young. From the time that I hid behind the couch while my parents watched Puppet Master when I was 6 to when I bought my first horror movie on VHS, Friday the 13th part 2. Horror films are something that I care about and writing about them, in someway, shape, or form, is something that I've wanted to do for awhile. So this blog is my way of finally not being lazy and doing something that I've always wanted to do.

So, why horror?

Because horror films are fun. Let's face it, if you're hanging out with you're buddies enjoying a few brews and a pizza chances are you're not going to be watching a "true to life" world war two period piece. You'll be watching a horror film. Don't get me wrong I like serious movies like Schindler's List, but it's not the kind of movie I'd like to gorge myself on pizza and beer while watching. I'd rather be watching a 600 year old Spanish Conquistador zombie rip some girl's throat out or a Candarian demon possess a man's hand, causing him to cut it off with a chainsaw.

If those sound like things that you'd enjoy then you're probably going to enjoy this blog. Well hopefully you will...no promises.
